Even though it feels remote and secluded up on its hill, Hillcrest Mansion Inn is actually within walking distance to the cultural attractions of Clifton Forge. A walk of about 10-15 minutes downhill (remember, you'll have to climb back up) brings you to the C&O Railway Heritage Center. This is a must-see for train lovers, featuring restored locomotives and rolling stock that visitors are encouraged to climb aboard and explore. The museum illustrates very well the town's history as a railroad hub.

A short distance from the railway depot stands the Historic Masonic Theatre and Amphitheatre. This architecturally beautiful building hosts concerts, movies, and plays within a comfortably restored setting. Spend some time here enjoying an event before heading to Jack Mason’s Tavern for dinner just down the street on foot inside one of Clifton Forge’s old buildings serving up craft beers with hearty pub fare or check out what might be hanging at Clifton Forge School of the Arts where public galleries are often open exhibits downhill walk is easy but returning upstairs toward mansion may best suit those driving short distance having mobility preferences.
